In a significant move towards promoting gender equality and combating sexism, the president of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, has mandated all government ministers to sign a declaration pledging a 'zero-tolerance' policy on sexist attitudes, behavior, and sexual harassment. This is the first time that ministers in Cyprus have been required to sign such a declaration, marking an important institutional commitment to eradicate such behavior within the government.
While Cyprus already has strict legislation in place to address sexual harassment and sexism in the workplace, this new development emphasizes the government's determination to create a safe and inclusive environment for all employees and visitors to government offices. According to the European Institute for Gender Equality, Cyprus currently ranks 22nd out of 27 member states in the European Union in terms of gender equality, with a score of 57.3 out of 100.
