The Christmas decorations that filled the streets of Derry and Strabane in December 2021 were an amazing sight to behold.

After losing Christmas festivities in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, Derry City and Strabane District Council were determined to make Christmas 2021 even bigger and better than before the pandemic, with the highest Christmas tree in Ireland situated in the Guildhall Square.

However, despite the goodwill and Christmas joy surrounding the season, a small minority repeatedly vandalised and damaged the new decorations. and now the true cost of that damage has been revealed.
