When we envision plastic surgery, we often immediately think about a complete makeover of our physical appearance, or as movies have portrayed we emerge as a new person altogether - a misconception we’ve all hoarded within us for many years. Even in the past, the term ‘plastic surgery’ has been associated with many negative connotations. There are a lot of myths concerning what, how, and why when it comes to plastic surgery. These myths stop us from looking at the bright side and seeing the potential benefits. Over the last decade, plastic surgery has offered life-changing possibilities from various procedures, enabling people to find a new sense of confidence and most importantly, be more outspoken about the cosmetic procedures they see fit to do.
While the needle has moved, India is still grasping the ‘need’ verses ‘want’ of aesthetic procedures. Moreover, the perception of plastic surgery is greatly skewed, with the majority of apparent "knowledge" coming from hearsay, online tabloids, and our immediate communities’ opinions. Contrary to popular assumption, plastic surgery includes a broad spectrum of operations, from post-cancer reconstructive surgery to fixing congenital abnormalities.
