NEW DELHI: Mumbai City FC emerged victorious with a commanding 3-1 win over local favourites Mohammedan Sporting in an enthralling 132nd Durand Cup match at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan. The Islanders dominated the early stages of the match, securing a three-goal lead within the first 35 minutes, but Mohammedan Sporting fought back admirably with a goal of their own.
The first match of Group B, which also features Jamshedpur FC and the Indian Navy, kicked off with Mumbai City taking an early lead in the 12th minute. Australian defender Rostyn Griffiths showcased his aerial prowess, heading home a corner delivered by talisman Greg Stewart, with the ball finding the back of the net after hitting the underside of the bar.
