The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is warning drivers as scammers try to obtain people's bank details.
The warning was issued this week about fraudsters posing as the DVLA and sending messages that claim the recipient has not paid their road tax properly. The messages state that the motorist could be fined up to £1,000 should they not update their bank details.
In a tweet, the DVLA has confirmed this is a scam and urged drivers to ignore the text. If drivers enter their personal information, scammers could empty their bank accounts or use licence details to commit major offences on their behalf.
