Emily Land was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia - cancer of the white blood cells - after she started finding bruises across her body. After seeing her GP, Emily was sent to hospital in October 2021, for a blood test and later that day was told she had leukaemia.
After four rounds of chemotherapy, Emily, 21, was given the all-clear in July 2022 - but just six weeks later she relapsed. In August 2022 Emily was told her leukaemia had returned and she would have to have a bone marrow transplant. Emily was placed on the Anthony Nolan transplant register and three months later was told they found a match from a stranger in the Netherlands.
Emily, a student, said: "I was in shock when I was told I had cancer, I didn't realise what I was being told. It was a case of being shown a room and saying 'here is your room for the night you are staying in'.
