High-net-worth-individuals (HNWIs) see inflation as the most significant risk to their personal finances, according to the second edition of the Saltus Wealth Index. The Saltus Wealth Index surveyed attitudes of over 1,000 people in the UK - with investable assets of over £250,000 and an average net worth of £1.5m - about how they felt about the UK economy, their own wealth and lifestyles.
Working with Dr Mike Peacey, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol, the responses have been aggregated into a single index to track how these feelings change over time. Currently the Saltus Wealth Index stands at 68 out of 100, suggesting there are a number of issues causing concern.
While younger respondents remain fairly confident in the future of the UK economy and their own wealth, older HNWIs express significant concerns. Just a third (34%) of 55-64s and less than a quarter (23%) of over 65s say they feel confident - half the number than felt confident six months ago.
