It started like any other busy weekend night on West Sixth Street. Music was playing, patios were full, and people were spilling out of bars, enjoying the energy that downtown Austin is known for. Then, just before 2 a.m., everything changed.
Gunfire rang out near Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, sending crowds running for cover. Within minutes, police were on scene. By the end of the night, multiple people were dead or injured, and the suspect, now identified as Ndiaga Diagne, was also killed. As investigators dug deeper, a new layer of concern emerged- a possible terrorism link.
