People are being warned about a scam that targets householders expecting the Government £150 energy rebate. Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the scheme in March and currently those living in Band A to D homes across the country are receiving the rebate, which aims to help people with spiralling bills.
However, it is also a target for scammers. Speaking on Lorraine Kelly's morning show on ITV today, personal finance expert Peter Komolafe highlighted the latest con, reports BirminghamLive.
He said: "What's happening is scammers are pretending to be councils and asking for your bank statements. It is really important to note that if you are paying your council tax by direct debit the council already has your bank statement, so don't give your numbers to anyone.
