A former parliamentary staff member was arrested last week under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle informed MPs about the 'security matter' on Monday.
The arrest relates to unauthorised access to computer material, including intent to commit or facilitate further offences, and unauthorised modification of computer material.
Sir Lindsay stated that the police investigation is ongoing and he would not discuss further details in the House.
He added that he would update members when more information becomes available.
