A killer sparked a prison hostage situation after attacking a fellow inmate he accused of stealing a phone.
John Chawner, 43, pounced on Christopher Law in his cell at HMP Shotts in Lanarkshire on October 23 2021. He bound Law's hands and feet together, punched and kicked him before striking him with a broken toilet brush.
Jail staff were only able to get Chawner out around an hour after the attack started.
