UNCOVERED: Government grinds to a halt 5 ways the shutdown affects your wallet | History Defined

Editor’s Update: The longest government shutdown in history has ended after 43 days. President Trump signed a bill Wednesday night that funds three annual spending bills and extends the rest of government funding through Jan. 30, 2026. However, the new bill does not address the issue of Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) tax credits that expire at the end of the year. A vote for an extension is set for mid-December, but many Democrats fear that if it doesn’t pass, the cost of health coverage will skyrocket for millions of Americans.

The original article below was published in early October when the shutdown began.
