Grandmaster D Gukesh is on a roll. The 15-year-old won the 1st Chessable Sunway Formentera Open in Spain on Sunday. It was a hat-trick of titles for Gukesh as he had earlier won in La Roda tournament and followed it by pocketing the Menorca Open.
Gukesh, India’s youngest Grandmaster, remained unbeaten during the course of the 9 rounds. He had six wins and four draws in the tournament. In the 8th round, Gukesh defeated the seasoned K Sasikiran before drawing Armenian GM Haik M Martirosyan in the final encounter. The tournament gave the youngster 16 Elo points and he is now rated 2675. Gukesh is currently ranked 64th in the world. “Definitely happy to have won the tournament. The field was tough and to have remained unbeaten makes it more satisfying,” Gukesh told TOI.
