MUMBAI: A major reason the Sunrisers Hyderabad are almost set to finish at the last and No 10 spot in IPL-2023 table, with just four wins and nine defeats against their name, has been the poor performance of their high-profile English signing Harry Brook. Bought for a princely sum of Rs 13.25 crores, the 24-year-old batsman, dubbed as the latest sensation of English cricket following a phenomenal start to his England career, failed to do anything substantial, logging just 190 runs in 10 [email protected], with a non-too impressive strike rate of 124.18. This tally would have been worse but for the explosive opener’s unbeaten 100 against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14.
However, Sunrisers’ coach, the legendary Brian Lara, expects the talented youngster to bounce back from this setback. “A player like him, he has a lot of confidence. I know he has a lot of cricket coming up, playing for England. He is going to bounce back. That’s for sure. I don’t think he is lacking in confidence. You look at him in the nets and he is striking the ball really well. But the IPL is a different kettle of fish. It’s top-class cricket, the best cricketers in the world come over here to show their form. He may have had a lean series. He is one of our only players to have a hundred. We would have expected a lot more but I believe a player with that amount of talent is going to come good. His first taste of IPL, I am sure he will be hungry to prove himself as and when he comes back,” Lara said ahead of his team’s final league game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
