THE TRUTH ABOUT: Heatwave warning over fire risk posed by mirrors | History Defined

Mirrors could start a fire when hit with direct sunlight in this week's scorching heatwave, experts have warned. With temperatures set to reach 36C in some parts of the country, even glasses, and even crystal door knobs could put homes at risk.

Fires can be sparked when the items are placed near windows during sunny weather - with mirrors are the main culprit. Property experts at Insulation Express say people need to be extra cautious as the weather heats up again.

Mirrors and glass objects can intensify the beam of light that comes from the sun, especially if there is a concave element to the item. It is the same principle as using a magnifying glass to start a fire.
