Australia's Grand Tour ace Jai Hindley is inching his way closer to the overall podium at the Vuelta a Espana after unleashing a bold attack in the Spanish mountains.
On a 14th stage where Spain's Marc Soler left the competition for dead with a solo ascent and Jonas Vingegaard retained his overall lead with his second-place finish, Hindley was rewarded for his final-kilometre burst by gaining 10 seconds on Tom Pidcock in his battle to move ahead of the English star into third place.
Hindley, the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider who took the 2022 Giro d'Italia crown and was runner-up the previous year, is now just 32 seconds behind double Olympic mountain bike champion Pidcock, who's enjoying his best ever Grand Tour and again battled laudably to finish eighth on Saturday (Sunday AEST).
