It was May 20, 2014. The Bharatiya Janata Party having won 282 seats in Lok Sabha, Narendra Damodardas Modi was unequivocally elected as the Prime Minister of India. He got out of a vehicle at the main entrance of Parliament and got down on his knees to touch his head on the front steps.
This was an iconic moment. Cameras went wild and one could actually say there was a certain amount of reverence for the institution put on display. Modi continued towards the Central Hall and gave an emotional speech — breaking down and gulping water — while he spoke about serving Mother India and Mother BJP as its son. He spoke at length about how it is his duty to serve and his sacrifice should not to be considered as a favour he is doing on the people of India.
