You can start the Volcano Manor quest pretty early when playing Elden Ring if you use one of the two ways of getting to the area before you explore as far as Mt. Gelmir. It's not a particularly long quest but you might find it challenging at lower levels, especially as there's a boss you'll need to deal with right at the end. Luckily, you're rewarded with new weapons and armor sets for your troubles, as well as a couple of separate NPC quests.
Figuring out how to get there isn't clear-cut either. It's located in one of the more difficult regions to navigate, and it's not somewhere you need to go to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, so it's easy to overlook.
