KIZHAKAMBALAM: Chayattunjalil Kunjaru and his wife Karthu of Parappuram colony in Kavungalparambu are dealing with the devastating loss of their only son. In Deepu’s village grief and shock had several faces, with hundreds thronging the colony, around 5km away from Kizhakkambalam on Saturday, to pay their tribute to the 38-year-old who died on Friday a week after he was allegedly attacked by CPM workers.
Deepu, a painting worker in an automobile workshop, was the sole breadwinner of the family. His father is a heart patient while mother suffers from various age-related illnesses. After Deepu was hospitalized, the health condition of both his parents had worsened and they too were hospitalized. Biju Nervaath, Deepu’s cousin, said it was a doctor who informed the parents about Deepu’s death. Biju said though Deepu was an active member of Twenty20, he never got involved in any clashes.
Varikkattukulam Johny, who used to work with Deepu, broke down while talking about him. “He was such a good person. We don’t know how this happened. We are struggling to realize he has gone,” he said.
