Chancellor Jeremy Hunt hit back on Friday at Tory MPs attacking his £24 billion of tax rises stating: “There is nothing Conservative about ducking difficult decisions.”
As millions of households across Britain reeled from the scale of the Autumn Statement’s measures to plug a £55 billion blackhole in the public finances, Mr Hunt defended the plan which also includes £30 billion of spending cuts.
