The IDF stated that the target was a command and control center used by Hamas terrorists to plan and execute attacks against the IDF and Israel. The center was embedded in the former 'Safad' school premises in Gaza City.

Prior to the strike, the IDF emphasized that multiple precautions were taken to minimize the risk of civilian casualties. The IDF's action was a response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with tensions escalating in the region.
