An engrossing day in Delhi
India probably have their hooter in front after that first day, but only just. Australia have given themselves a decent chance by nudging their first innings score up to 263, largely thanks to an obdurate and calm innings of 72 off 142 balls from Peter Handscomb. He was all soft hands, late glides and watchful defence as Aussie wickets fell in clumps around him.
The pitch at the Arun Jaitley stadium showed some signs of deterioration in the nine overs that India survived at the close, at least two balls – one from debutant Matt Kuhnemann and another from gnarled old gunslinger Nathan Lyon - scudded across the surface at no more than ankle height. Here’s hoping for a low scoring thriller across the next few days.
We’ll be back for day two tomorrow, thanks for all your comments and correspondence. Goodbye!
