Newcastle have named uncapped David Armstrong as Kalyn Ponga's injury replacement and the fullback to help salvage their ailing NRL season.

Ponga is expected to miss months rather than weeks with the foot injury he suffered in the Knights' thrashing from Canterbury, their fifth loss from seven starts in 2024.
