Dane Gagai could be in line for a spicy reunion with Latrell Mitchell in the Rugby League World Cup opener, with the Newcastle veteran cleared to switch allegiance from Australia to New Zealand.

The centre pairing recently clashed in the NRL elimination final between Gagai's Knights and Mitchell's South Sydney and, pending selection, round two is now pencilled in for Thursday, October 15, at Allianz Stadium.
