FORGOTTEN HISTORY: Liverpool tipped to make move for former manchester united goalkeeper - Caught on Camera

Liverpool could bring a former Manchester United player to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to refresh his goalkeeping options.

According to German outlet BILD, the Reds are considering a move for ex-Red Devils and Leicester City glovesman Ron-Robert Zieler. The 33-year-old currently plies his trade with 2. Bundesliga outfit Hannover.

He is not the first 'keeper from the second tier of German football to be linked with a move to Merseyside. Last week it was reported that the Reds were interested in SV Sandhausen’s Patrick Drewes.

Zieler has six German international caps and was part of their last World Cup-winning squad. Despite having two previous spells at Premier League clubs, he did not play a single first team match for United.

Liverpool's current third-choice goalkeeper, Adrian, is out of contract at the end of the season, and with second-choice Caoimhin Kelleher someone who may seek out first-team opportunities elsewhere, Klopp may need to alter his back-up options for first-choice Alisson Becker.

BILD also reports that Zieler will appeal to the Reds because his stint with United as a teenager qualifies him as a Premier League 'home-grown player'. His contract is due to expire next summer, so will be available for a low fee in January.

But Hannover's sporting director Marcus Mann has played down the speculation. He said: “I haven’t heard anything about it.”
