Presenter Mark Pougatch made a tragic announcement during ITV's World Cup coverage on Monday (November 21).

Ahead of Wales' opening game against the USA, Pougatch confirmed that ITV Sport’s technical director had died while heading the channel’s World Cup coverage in Qatar. Roger Pearce has been part of ITV’s major sports event team since the 1988 Olympics and was due to retire in just more than a month's time.

Pougatch said: “We have some very sad news to bring you from here in Qatar. Our technical director, Roger Pearce, who was here embarking on his eighth World Cup has sadly passed away.
