West Ham have earmarked former Hammer Michael Carrick as a potential successor to under-pressure boss David Moyes.
The club’s hierarchy have so far backed Moyes against the growing discontent amongst many of their fans over the Scot after a season of struggle in stark contrast to the last campaign. But in planning for the future Carrick who has worked wonders at Middlesbrough after taking over in October is prominent in a shortlist of possible replacements for Moyes.
In a short time on Teesside, Carrick who also enjoyed a brief spell as Manchester United caretaker manager – remaining unbeaten – has transformed the North East club from relegation candidates to one well set for a Championship promotion play-off spot.
