FORGOTTEN HISTORY: Mike norvell makes decision on future following alabama interest - The Untold Story

Florida State coach Mike Norvell will remain with the Seminoles after sources told Sports Illustrated that he was as a candidate under serious consideration for the Alabama coaching vacancy.

Norvell and the Seminoles agreed to a new eight-year contract extension that will pay him more than $10 million per year, a source tells SI’s Richard Johnson.

Florida State vice president and director of athletics Michael Alford posted a picture of black smoke on X, formerly Twitter, while tagging Norvell and school president Richard McCullough with the #OneTribe. This was the first indicator that Norvell would remain in Tallahassee.

Shortly thereafter, Norvell posted a message of his own confirming that he would remain at Florida State.

“GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!! The #CLIMBContinues grateful for to (sic) lead the #NoleFamily with our incredible staff. Appreciate [President McCullogh], [AD Michael Alford] and the Seminoles for continued commitment on our journey back to the TOP! The Future is bright in Tallahassee.”

Norvell and the Seminoles will press on after a 13–1 season that featured an ACC championship and an Orange Bowl appearance. Despite being snubbed for the College Football Playoff, the program is clearly on the ascent after a couple of tough years early in his tenure.

Norvell holds a 48–31 record in his four seasons in Tallahassee, which has included back-to-back 10-plus win seasons.
