EXPLAINED: More than a third of gps plan to quit within five years | Vintage Vibes

A new study has revealed that more than a third of GPs plan to quit their jobs within the next five years. Further, three in five - 60 per cent - of those aged over 50 are planning to finish by 2026.

The latest annual GP Worklife survey, the 11th to be carried out by academics at the University of Manchester, found that a "worrying" 16 per cent of GPs aged under 50 were considering leaving as well. The survey also found a drop in job satisfaction between 2019 and 2021, with 51 per cent saying they were satisfied in 2021.

Among the problems highlighted by doctors were increased workloads, bigger demands from patients and having "insufficient time to do the job justice". The survey spoke to nearly 2,300 family doctors in England. It found that paperwork, long hours and "problem patients" were among the big stresses, reports YorkshireLive.
