The sole focus of Bougainville's leaders to secure independence from Papua New Guinea risks failing to improve the long-term wellbeing of its people, research warns.
Almost 98 per cent of people in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, located in the northeast of PNG's territorial waters, voted for independence in 2019.
