A woman flying out of a New York City airport was stopped by security after seemingly attempting to board a plane with bizarre weapon in her carry-on luggage, according to a report.

The incident happened at LaGuardia Airport during a routine security screening, when TSA officers noticed a "samurai sword" inside the woman's carry-on via X-ray, NBC New York reported.

Since weapons of any kind are prohibited on a plane, authorities quickly confiscated the weapon.

The woman was issued a summons to appear in court and faces potential legal consequences for trying to bring a prohibited item onto a flight. The court date is set for some time later this year, according to the NBC affiliate.

Meanwhile, the sword remains in police custody and is being stored as evidence.
