NAGPUR: Genome sequencing of Covid positive samples from the region has shown dominance of new Omicron sub-lineage BA.2.75 in Vidarbha, which is witnessing spike in all the districts. This highly mutated variant of Omicron is more fitter and known to dodge antibodies beside better attaching itself to human cells.
The Neeri lab led by scientist Krishna Khairnar has found BA.2.75 in 34.78% samples in its 25th whole genome sequencing (WGS) series. Around 36% of the samples testing positive for BA.2.75 belong to asymptomatic patients. The lab had received 319 samples. Of these, 92 were found fit for the WGS. The lab detected a total of 15 variants including BA.2.75 in these samples.
