Sixteen years after Madeleine McCann disappeared from a holiday rental in Portugal, police are preparing to search a dam 50 kilometres from where she was last seen.

Portuguese police are to search a reservoir inland from where the British three-year-old disappeared in 2007 in the first formal development in the case in Portugal in several years.
