HISTORICAL FACTS: Protest to be held over scottish labour mp s stance on gaza ceasefire - The Untold Story

A PROTEST is to be held in Rutherglen tomorrow (Monday, January 8) over Labour MP Michael Shanks’ stance on a ceasefire in Gaza.

We previously told how Shanks (below) was among those to back the UK Labour leader Keir Starmer's call for a “humanitarian pause” as opposed to a ceasefire.

Along with Ian Murray, Shanks (above) sided with Keir Starmer on the issue, unlike Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar who previously called for a ceasefire.

According to a post on the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s Instagram page, a protest will be held outside Rutherglen Town Hall on January 8 at 9.30am to protest against the MP’s stance on the issue.

Shanks was elected as the MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West in a by-election in October.

Starmer has come under pressure over his stance on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East for months.

A total of 56 MPs rebelled against Starmer, including eight frontbenchers to back the SNP’s motion for a ceasefire last November.

A number of officials and councillors have also resigned over the issue while Jess Phillips quit the Labour frontbench.

The demonstration in Rutherglen comes after a number of demonstrations were held across Scotland over the weekend while protesters also staged a sit-in on Westminster Bridge.
