MYSTERIOUS: Rangers sign star pitcher jacob degrom to blockbuster deal - What They Never Told You

DALLAS — The Rangers struck de biggest blow on the free agent market Friday, signing Jacob deGrom to a five-year deal, the team announced. Two people with knowledge of the deal confirmed with The Dallas Morning News it is worth $185 million. The deal also includes an option for a sixth year.

DeGrom, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who has only pitched 224 innings over the last three years, was considered the biggest fish in the pitching market, but also a significant risk.

DeGrom missed most of the second half of 2021 with elbow inflammation and then missed the first four months of 2022 with a right scapula stress reaction.

He was limited to 12 starts, though considered a full workload, in 2020 by the pandemic shortened season.
