Seattle (Washington) [US]: A new study at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine said that patients treated for Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) face a 40 per cent of recurrence rate in five years. This is significantly higher than the recurrence rate of melanoma and other skin cancers.
The findings of the research were published in the journal 'JAMA Dermatology'.Additionally, in the study cohort of more than 600 patients, 95 per cent of MCC recurrences happened in the first three years, suggesting that surveillance efforts should be focused on that span the authors wrote.
