Returning to the scene of his biggest career heartbreaks, Russian Daniil Medvedev has continued his unbeaten start to the year with a straight-sets win to kickstart his Australian Open campaign.
The 11th seed is a three-time finalist at Melbourne Park but has never lifted the trophy, twice losing after taking a two-set lead, including in 2024 when he was run down by Jannik Sinner.
Medvedev made no mistake in his opening round on Monday, downing young Dutchman Jesper de Jong 7-5 6-2 7-6 (7-2).
