AMARAVATI: Heat impact studies being taken up across the world are biased towards the developed nations, which is misleading the world in handling the climate change related health issues, observed NSV Sarath Chandra, researcher on climate change at IIT, Hyderabad.
He said it is time to focus on research in developing and least developed countries where actual impact of heat and rising temperatures is the greatest. He said poor researches and infrastructure for taking up studies in underdeveloped nations is not only giving false picture about the impact of the climate change but also taking heavy toll on their population. "Most of the research on heat-health impacts is happening in USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. Approximately 80% of research literature available in various databases like Pubmed on heat-health is based in these countries. How could we know the real picture without taking up any study?" asked Sarath.
