A sports coach was bludgeoned to death by her ex-boyfriend in a bathroom as revenge for breaking off a relationship marked by coercive control, a coroner has heard.

Water polo coach Lilie James was killed when her ex-boyfriend Paul Thijssen hit her head with a hammer at least 25 times inside a bathroom at St Andrew's Cathedral School in Sydney.
