BIZARRE: Scottish councillor dials into online meeting while driving car - What They Never Told You

A Scottish council meeting was interrupted after a member who dialled in remotely was spotted driving.

North Ayrshire councillor Jim Montgomerie can be seen driving during the Zoom call, with his phone appearing to be perched on the windshield.

Council leader Tony Gurney stopped the meeting to call out Mr Montgomerie: “We allow people to attend remotely on the basis that they concentrate on the proceedings of the council. I do wonder whether being on the road and having to concentrate on driving would perhaps mar that in any respect.”

Provost Anthea Dickson warned Mr Montgomerie that he could be prosecuted, though he contested that he was driving “hands-free”.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We have established procedures in place for elected members attending hybrid meetings.

“Each member is aware of both these procedures and the expectations of participating virtually.”
