During a late-night session in the Senate, Democrats used the opportunity to express their concerns and opposition to various aspects of President Donald Trump's policies and the Republican budget resolution. The debate covered a wide range of topics beyond the $340 billion budget framework, including Trump's plans for deportations, tax breaks for the wealthy, and cuts to safety net programs.
Democrats introduced numerous amendments aimed at addressing issues such as reinstating fired federal employees, preventing program cuts, preserving Medicaid, and supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. However, most of these amendments were not approved, as the budget resolution was ultimately passed by a mostly party-line vote of 52-48.
