PUNE: Although she missed out on a World Championship medal, Sift Kaur Samra ensured a Paris Olympics quota for India in the women's 50m rifle 3 position in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday.
Sift sealed the quota even before she played in the eight-player Final after shooting a creditable 589 to be ranked fifth in the qualification round. In the finale, the 21-year-old shot 429.1 to finish fifth overall. With five of the eight finalists having already won a quota, Sift bagged the Olympic berth as there were four tickets available in the category. This was the sixth quota place for India and the third from this World Championships after Mehuli Ghosh (10m air rifle) and Akhil Sheoran (50m rifle 3P) sealed the spots in their respective events.
