BIZARRE: Spurs eyeing potential reunion with dejounte murray per report - What They Never Told You

The San Antonio Spurs are interested in reuniting with Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Murray became trade-eligible on Tuesday, and the Spurs have shown “exploratory interest” in their former first-round pick, per Charania. The 27-year-old spent five seasons with the Spurs before he was included in a trade with Jock Landale to the Hawks for Danilo Gallinari and several first-round picks following the 2021-22 NBA season.

Murray averaged career highs in points per game (21.1), rebounds (8.3), assists (9.2) and steals per game (2.0) in 2021-22, his final season in San Antonio. The Spurs are seeking to build a foundation around rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio has a plethora of draft assets between 2024 and ’30 that could help the franchise do that. Although Charania reported that San Antonio is taking a “patient approach” to its rebuilding process, having a player such as Murray back in the Spurs’ system is a possibility.

The Spurs are the latest team rumored to have interest in the Atlanta guard. The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are also suitors for Murray as the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline approaches.

In July, Murray signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the Hawks. Murray is currently averaging 20.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists on a Hawks team that sits 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.
