A South Carolina firing squad has executed Stephen Bryant, 44, on Friday, making him the third person to die by this method in the state this year. Bryant, who was condemned for killing three people in a rural area over five days in 2004, chose the firing squad over lethal injection or the electric chair.
Pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m., Bryant made no final statement, offering only a brief glance at the 10 witnesses before a hood was placed on his head. Three prison employees, all with live ammunition, carried out the execution.
