Bush communities are begging for more budget airfares even as regional airline Rex warns that stiff competition in small markets is pushing the airline to the brink.

Isolated and aging populations are being let down by expensive ticket costs, Madeleine Lawler, chief executive of Regional Development Australia on the Mid North Coast of NSW, warned.
