UNBELIEVABLE: Study reveals how marriage affects men s waistlines | History Defined

  • Being married significantly increases the risk of obesity, especially in men.
  • A Polish study found that married men were 3.2 times more likely to be obese than unmarried men, and had a 62 per cent increased risk of being overweight.
  • While marriage also increased the risk of being overweight in women by 39 per cent, it did not significantly affect their obesity risk.
  • Researchers suggest cultural differences in attitudes towards obesity may explain the disparity between sexes.
  • Age was also identified as a risk factor for obesity and being overweight in both men and women.
