TV Host Sunny Hostin has faced intense online criticism after questioning the account of a former Cornell University student who alleges she was sexually assaulted by seven fraternity members in 2024. During a recent episode of The View, Hostin focused on the legal reasoning behind the decision not to bring criminal charges at the time, prompting accusations from some viewers that she was being overly sympathetic to the men accused in the case.
Hostin, a former sex-crimes prosecutor, stressed that the seven men named in the woman's civil lawsuit have not been criminally charged or convicted. She argued that the original investigation had to be assessed according to the evidence and New York law available to prosecutors in 2024. The criminal investigation has since been reopened and is expected to go before a grand jury.
