SURAT: Ashraf Khan Baloch, police inspector, Surat economic offences wing (EOW), Ahmedabad crime branch inspector Darshansinh Barad and Surat crime branch inspector Mahendra Salunke were also honoured for 'excellence in investigation' by union home minister Amit Shah.
Baloch, who was then serving in Ahmedabad detection of crime branch (DCB), had cracked a kidnapping of two young boys of Surendranagar district in 2020. The prime conspirator turned out to be a relative of one of the boys. Baloch led the probe with a crime branch team that scanned all CCTV footage along the route where the boys were taken in Ahmedabad and ensured their safe release.
