HISTORICAL FACTS: Tailbacks and queues as people rush to the tip before strikes | History Defined

Huge queues formed at one Merseyside tip as people rushed to get rid of their waste ahead of tomorrow's strikes.

Pictures and videos from Bidston Household Waste Recycling Centre shows a long tailback of cars as householders look to dispose of waste from a busy Christmas period. The queues come the day before 22 tips across Merseyside go on strike at the end of December and twice in January.

Photos of the Veolia site in Wirral show the chaos that descended on the waste site. The industrial action will begin on Wednesday, December 28, with the initial round of action continuing until Saturday, December 31. There are then further strikes planned beginning on Monday, January 2 until Saturday, January 7 and again from Sunday, January 15 until Saturday, January 21.
