Two teenage boys charged over the attempted firebombing of a popular and thrice-targeted bar may be part of a wave of attacks on licensed venues and $10,000 extortion demands, police say.

Patrolling officers spotted a white car arrive outside Bar Bambi in Flinders Lane in Melbourne's CBD about 4.45am on Friday.
